BIRTHDAY TIME!

Harper is now 1! its amazing for me to watch my little boy grow and learn everyday. im so thankful that i am able to be a stay at home mom, and spend my time with this little buy. he drives me crazy at times, but all he has to do is flash me a quick smile and my day is better. heres some pictures from some birthday things, we are going to vegas on the 5th for a big party!

HARPERS FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!!

i can hardly believe it! it doesnt seem like my baby boy could already be a year old! i remember finding out i was pregnant and how scared i was. I'll never forget the first time i heard his heart beat, or felt him kick, or the pain from his little feet diggin into my ribs! The first time i saw him, after 14 1/2 hours of HELL, it was love. complete, amazing, LOVE. I'll never forget the first time he said MAMA, i cried. He is so amazing, and can make my day better with just one little smile, laugh or even when he moves, and accidently lets out a baby fart.. hehe. He brings our family so much joy, and i can't even remember what life was like before he was here. Thank you Harper for being so happy, and sharing so much love! you will always be my little piggy and of course, dads MONSTA MASH!

i was reading in glamour magazine, and i found this great article. ( i saw it was also on Ellen today too!) but this is really inspiring! After having a baby and gaining about 35 lbs. i am very self consious about my body. im trying to lose all of it, but still hve about 15 lbs to go. so while i am very happy with my progress, i am still not seeing the results i would like. I have never been a size 2 , 4 or hell i think i was a size 6 when i was in high school, but those days are over... for now atleast. im trying to love my body for how it is. yes, i did gain weight, and yes i am having a horrible time trying to lose it, but look at the wonderful thing i got from it! So, please read, and find out more about these inspiring women, weither you are a size 2, or a size 14! always remember, you are a woman, and you are beautiful! embrace your curves and celebrate your cellulite!






It's a photo that measures all of three by three inches in our September issue, but the letters about it started to flood my inbox literally the day Glamour hit newsstands. (As editor-in-chief, I pay attention to this stuff!) "I am gasping with delight...I love the woman on p 194!" said one...then another, and another, andanotherandanotherandanother. So...who is she? And what on earth is so special about her?


Here's the deal: The picture wasn't of a celebrity. It wasn't of a supermodel. It was of a woman sitting in her underwear with a smile on her face and a belly that looks...wait for it...normal.

The "woman on p. 194." Gorgeous!



I'd loved this photo at first sight myself--we'd commissioned it for a story on feeling comfortable in your skin, and wanted a model who looked like she was. But even so, the letters blew me away: "the most amazing photograph I've ever seen in any women's magazine," wrote one reader in Pavo, Georgia. From another in Somerset, Massachusetts: "This beautiful woman has a real stomach and did I even see a few stretch marks? This is how my belly looks after giving birth to my two amazing kids! This photo made me want to shout from the rooftops."

The emails were filled with such joy--joy at seeing a woman's body with all the curves and quirks and rolls found in nature. (Raising a question: With all the six-packs out there, do you even know what a normal belly looks like anymore--other than the one you see in the mirror?)

So what's the story behind the photo? "The woman on p. 194" is actually 20-year-old model Lizzi Miller, and this is her second appearance in Glamour, shot by fashion photographer Walter Chin. A size 12-14 and avid softball player/belly dancer ("I like exercising when it's fun"), Lizzi moved to New York City from San Jose three years ago to become a model (a "plus-size" one by modeling industry standards, though hello, at size 12 she's actually "normal size"...but I digress).

"When I was young I really struggled with my body and how it looked because I didn't understand why my friends were so effortlessly skinny," Lizzi told me. "As I got older I realized that everyone's body is different and not everyone is skinny naturally--me included! I learned to love my body for how it is, every curve of it. I used to be so self-conscious in a bikini because my stomach wasn't perfectly defined. But everyone has different body shapes! And it's not all about the physical! If you walk on the beach in your bikini with confidence and you feel sexy, people will see you that way too."

As for the letters, Lizzi's loving them. "When I read them I got teary-eyed!" she says. "I've been that girl, flipping through magazines trying to find just one person who looked a little bit like me. And when I didn't find it I would start to think there's something wrong with the way that I looked. When J. Lo and Beyoncé came out and were making curves sexy, I started to accept myself more. It's funny, but just seeing them look and feel sexy enabled me to do the same." Lizzi, now you're doing the same for all of us--massive congrats on that.

We had some rollicking debates in this blog last week about "fattism" and the TV shows for plus-size women. So let's start off this week with something we can all get behind: a toast to the woman on p. 194, and to the spectacular sexiness of owning who you are. Trust me, Glamour's listening, and this only strengthens our commitment to celebrating all kinds of beauty.

Twinkie!

so we deceided to give harper his first twinkie! his first birthday is next month ( i can't believe my baby will already be a year old!) and so we wanted to see how he would do with eating something like cake stuff! im not one for all sorts of junk food, but every now and then sure!

HE LOVED IT! he had it everywhere! i cant wait to see how he does with his own cake!

So,
a lot has happened since my last post. Well.... not a lot, but it seems like it! We had a family reunion kinda thing in Tropic for the 24th so my brother and sisters were there along with my mom and step dad. A week before that though, we were in tropic for Duck Creek days. that was such a blast! Anthony wanted me to see my family though since it seems like we never get to see each other, so he had to come home for work. It was a very long 11 days without him. We cried when we said bye, lame, i know, but it just shows how much love we have for each other. I couldnt imagine my life without my husband. anyways, it was so much fun and im so glad i got to spend more time with everyone. We got to spend the day at lagoon with mark, kelly and aunt trin. It was sooo much fun! Trin loved the rides, and water park. i think that was harpers favorite thing of the day. he wore himself out! Harper loved spending time with his Grandma kelly, and looking at the Cabellas ad with Grandpa mark. My mom and step dad live in California so they dont get to see Harper very often. Evryone loved watching him at night, and how funny he is. He got onto a blowup matteress and just bounced and had SOO much fun. He is just so cute and such a happy baby! i just love him. He just had a little stomach bug and was throwing up for the day, but was still very happy! Poor anthony though, he's outta town for work and is sleeping around the toilet tonight. He got the stomach bug and is sick sick sick. I feel so bad that i cant take care of him! he'll be back in a few days so i hope you feel better husband! It was really cold here a few days ago, so we stayed inside and cuddled under the blankets and watched movies. My family is the greatest. I cant believe how lucky i am. My husband is such a good hard worker and the greatest father. He is the MOST wonderful husband. thanks for everything you do! We love you!
